3 dead in Pasadena shooting; suspect in custody

Three people were killed and two wounded when a man with a rifle began shooting in a residential area of Pasadena Saturday afternoon, according to police.
The suspect exchanged fire with officers before barricading himself inside what may have been his home in the 1700 block of Summit Avenue, according to Pasadena police. One victim was killed inside the house and two victims were killed outside the house.
"When officers arrived, they witnessed a victim down on the sidewalk. The first officer on scene attempted to help the victim and came under heavy and direct gun fire," Pasadena police Lt. John Luna told KPCC.
The suspect eventually called 911 inside a nearby residence and after negotiating with police, surrendered peacefully.

"Following the attack, the police officers did a containment and the suspect went back inside the residence and ended up calling our communications center and our police dispatcher convinced the man into surrendering," Lt. John Luna told KPCC.
The suspect was uninjured and is now in custody. The motive is still under investigation. Police are looking into whether it was a tenant-landlord dispute.
One victim has been identified as 59-year-old Maria Teresa Aguiar. The two other victims are unidentified males.
Below is the full advisory issued by the Pasadena Police Department shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday:
At about 4:20 pm, the Pasadena Police Department received several 911 calls from residents reporting shots fired in the area of 1700 block Summit Ave. Officers responded and upon arrival came under heavy, direct gun fire. The suspect, a male in his 30's, barricaded himself in a home. During a standoff, the suspect called the police department's communications center and was convinced to surrender. Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Pasadena Police can confirm three victims were killed by the gunman. Two others sustained minor to moderate injuries. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending further investigation by Detective who are on scene.
Residents are asked to avoid the area as the investigation is still active.
