More LA spots to try
  • That's what a hamburger, customer service, value, and being fast is all about: In-N-Out Burger comes in at the top of Consumer Reports' first-ever major ratings of fast food restaurants.
  • Radishes have been around all spring, but they're still abundant in the farmer's market, ready to enjoy! Yet another edible root vegetable from the Brassica family (kale, cabbage, chard. etc.), radishes are a popular garden choice because they grow relatively quickly in both spring and fall seasons. The raw flesh has a robust crunch and a pungent, peppery flavor due to an amino acid and an enzyme which combine when chewed to form the same compound found in mustard, horseradish and wasabi. The young leaves are edible, making a nice addition to soups, as are the seeds, which can be used as a spicy, crunchy seasoning.
  • Revelers, a new destination for your Hollywood nights: The Next Door Lounge opens up tomorrow night, and will be all about the classic 1920s cocktails in a speakeasy-style setting. Acclaimed barman Joseph Brooke is defecting from Downtown's The Edison to take charge of the libations.
  • In January 2008, devotees of Silver Lake's Back Door Bakery bid a forlorn farewell to their beloved neighborhood café. Owner Deborah Goodale packed up and all but disappeared after she closed up shop, but has since resurfaced in a whole new part of town, with a recently re-opened Back Door Bakery, serving up bakery treats and breads along with coffee and tea to new customers and old in the Sunland area.
  • It's just a few hours by car or practically the blink of an eye by plane--Las Vegas has long been one of Angelenos' favorite escapes for a night or two (or more for the brave) of great food, drink, gambling, and entertainment. LAist is taking a look at some of the great reasons to be lured to the Nevada desert for some sun and fun in Sin City. First up: A 4th of July Weekend BBQ & Beer event at the Bellagio.
  • So many tacos, so little time! Those of you planning to attend Casa Vega's 55th anniversary on June 28 can prep your appetite this Sunday, June 26 at the first annual LA Taco Festival in Boyle Heights.
