More LA spots to try
  • When you order a steak at a restaurant, do you know where the beef came from, what it was fed, and under what conditions it was slaughtered? Should that even matter? If you are among those who are lured into Sizzler because they advertise a $9.99 steak dinner deal, have you ever thought: Isn't that too cheap for good meat? (It is, by the way.)
  • Sometimes the craving hits--so what if you are the POTUS and the city is on traffic lockdown during their already busy rush hour to accommodate your arrival--and you need some Roscoe's Chicken 'n Waffles. And stop is exactly what President Obama did last night, en route to two pricey fundraisers, with an unscheduled snack break at the Roscoe's in Mid-City on Pico.
  • It's Food Day! But wait, we eat every day so why an actual "Food" day? According to the non-profit that is sponsoring this day as dialogue they have some fairly straightforward (okay, awesome) goals. Plus, a few ways for you to get involved in the local "good food" movement.
  • This may bring about some closure for those who were adamant for so long that Fresh & Easy open a location in North Hollywood. Specifically in the area's retail core, NoHo Arts. And, before word came it would become a 24 Hour Fitness, specifically NoHo Arts-ers wanted F&E to take over the failed HOWS market.
  • Another day, another salad ruined by the threat of salmonella contamination. Friday, Church Brothers, LLC has issued a recall for 560 bags of clipped spinach as a precautionary measure after one bag tested positive for Salmonella during a random USDA Microbiological Data Program sampling. So far no illnesses have been reported.
  • Following last weekend's Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival and September's The Taste, it's understandable if food lovers in our fair city are experiencing "event" fatigue. It would be a shame if you let that deter you from attending Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event 2011 this Sunday.
