More LA spots to try
  • Do you want to see genetically engineered foods labeled? Help get the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act of 2012 ballot initiative passed and attend a local training meeting this week.
  • The men of Hanson are boys no more. And nothing says "I'm a grownup, dammit!" like being behind an alcoholic beverage. Perhaps the only finer than some Ed Hardy wine is some Hanson beer. It's an IPA, to be precise, to be called (what else?) MMMHop, and it should be on the market next year.
  • HerCampus.com has named their picks for the 10 Healthiest College Dining Halls, and one area school's "Farm to Fork" program is helping keep their students eating right.
  • For the first time in awhile, I've seen Meyer lemons back at the farmer's market. Meyer lemons are native to China and thought to be a cross between a true lemon and a mandarin or orange. Brought back from a trip to China by Frank Meyer about 100 years ago, they grow well in warm climates in orchards or garden pots as ornamental trees with a winter seasonality in the California climate.
  • Diners who frequent Café Gratitude on Larchmont may have no idea that the parent company who runs several locations of the vegan eatery in the Bay Area has been mired for years in legal challenges, including controversial allegations the business owners require employees to participate in an alleged cult.
  • When it comes to two of the the most popular food trucks in Los Angeles--and maybe even the nation--The Grilled Cheese Truck and the Coolhaus Truck, if they went head to head in a comparison test like what cars are put through, who would serve up a tasty win?
