It's official. Angelenos may be able to vote on a new ballot initiative come November and see a new food label at grocery stores soon thereafter. According to Debra Bowen, Secretary of State, Californians may now add their signatures to a new ballot initiative mandating labeling of genetically engineered foods being sold in raw or packaged form.

The Newport Beach restaurant listed on the receipt of a patron who left a measly 1% tip and wrote that his waitress should "GET A REAL JOB" has responded. The receipt (posted at right) was the first post by an anonymous blogger under the handle "Future Ex-Banker" whose blog and Twitter feed have since been yanked down.

A bill introduced last week by state Assemblyman Bill Monning (D-Carmel) could have serious impact on how food trucks do business, if the bill is made into law. AB 1678 calls for the prohibition of mobile vending within 1500 feet of an elementary or secondary school between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
