More LA spots to try
  • The Night Market is an institution in many Asian countries, and now SoCal will get a taste of the after-sunset food and fun thanks to the 626 Night Market which is popping up for one night only this month in Pasadena.
  • Tickets are on sale for the 3rd annual LA Vegan Beer & Food Festival next month. The event sponsored by Quarrygirl, Tony's Darts Away and The Roxy combines vegan food and suds. It will be held May 12 from 1pm until 5 pm across the street from The Roxy. Tickets are $45.
  • The NCAA bracket-style contest for the title of Best Taco in Los Angeles ended with a tie (and thankfully, there are no hanging chads to worry about in online voting). The votes between Mariscos Jalisco, which had come close to taking the title in previous years, and Guisados split down evenly down the middle.
  • Brussels sprouts are a cool weather cultivar of cabbage, though shaped quite differently: a thick, main stalk covered with helical patterns of buds that resemble tiny cabbage heads. They grow in cooler climates, which make them ideal for the winter season in Southern California.
  • That's right, sweets lovahs, if your craving for that cold creamy stuff comes with a side of tenacity, you might want to get in line at the nearest Ben & Jerry's scoop shop for their annual Free Cone Day.
  • One of L.A.'s coolest seasonal spots is the Yamashiro Farmers' Market, and the opening night is Thursday, up in the Hollywood Hills.
