We Turned Ourselves Into Our Favorite Emojis [Now You Do Yours]

(Images by LAist Staff/Emojis designed by OpenMoji)
We need to hear from you.
Today during our spring member drive, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership. Thank you.

Here at the LAist + KPCC newsroom we've been working very hard to bring you all the information you need to make it through this national emergency. We take our public service mission very, very seriously.

We take ourselves a lot less seriously.

Most of us are working from home, per orders to practice social distancing and slow the spread of COVID-19. Although we're remote, we're all staying connected via Slack, Zoom, the good old telephone and telepathy (JK on that last one).

So last week, we got this unusual challenge in our #fun Slack channel:

Support for LAist comes from
"Slack emoji re-enactments tomorrow!"

Quick background: Halloween is a day of fierce costume competition for us. We even have prizes for best holiday decorations in December. So, in a room of public radio nerds + LAist veterans, you know we brought it.

[Note: We'd love to see your own re-enactments. Hit us up on Twitter with your best human emoji effort and an @LAist tag.]

So, even though all reasonable people voted and agreed April Fool's Day was canceled this year, that doesn't mean we can't still bring a smile (aka :joy:) to the masses.

Here we go...
