Golden Hour: California Photography from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Local Access is a new partnership between LACMA and four other SoCal institutions. L.A. Rams Celebrate Black History Month To celebrate Black History Month, the L.A. Rams have partnered with Black L.A. artists to tell three stories about people who are part of the Rams family. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. If you're not into football, Kitten Bowl VIII airs at 2 p.m. on the Hallmark channel while the Puppy Bowl XVII airs at 2 p.m. on Animal Planet. Who doesn't miss going out to eat or stopping by a bar for a drink? Here are a few options from restaurants and bars as we work our way back toward normal.
Earlier this week, LASA in Chinatown officially became Lasita Filipino Rotisserie & Natural Wine. Co-Owner Chase Valencia and former chef de cuisine Nico de Leon are taking pre-orders until Friday at noon for weekend pick-ups in the Far East Plaza (727 N. Broadway), a format they'll continue for a few weeks before adding new menu items and days. The menu focuses on chicken inasal and pork belly lechon with a few side dishes to start.
During Black History Month, we're shining a light on Black-owned restaurants such as Post & Beam. The Baldwin Hills spot (3767 Santa Rosalia Dr.) has created a Creole chicken grain bowl as part of a new partnership with Everytable. It's available at Everytable's stores and through its meal subscription and delivery service. Meanwhile, chef John Cleveland and his wife Roni, owners of Post & Beam, have pivoted temporarily to pizzas, cocktails and a few other items available for pick-up and delivery.
Red Boat's R&D chef, Diep Tran, brings her Banh Chung Collective online on Saturday, Feb. 6. Reserve space for the online class and purchase take-home banh chung kits that will be available for pick-up. Each kit ($46) includes everything you'll need to make four banh chung and a special treat. Tran livestreams from Alma Backyard Farms in Compton. More information.
Sidecar Doughnuts has opened a new location at Gilmore Station (Third & Fairfax) next to Trader Joe's. The donuts are fried in small batches every hour. Classic flavors include huckleberry, butter and salt, and maple bacon, with a monthly rotating menu.
Because its pastrami hoagie was so popular last month, Santa Monica's Cassia is offering the "La Zi Ji" spicy popcorn chicken hoagie. Inspired by the Sichuan stir-fried dish la zi ji, the hoagie ($39) comes with a small Caesar salad and French fries dusted with Vietnamese-Cajun seasoning. The hoagie is available through Wednesday, Feb. 10, exclusively through Tock.
The Rose in Venice reopens on Friday for brunch and dinner. Its pizza oven, which was stolen last week, has been found and returned so pies are back on the menu.
Porto's has expanded its Bake at Home menu with the addition of ham and chicken croquettes and chicken pie. The croquettes are sold by the dozen for $16.99 while the pie goes for $19.99. Deliveries are now available nationwide.
