The COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc on schools, stores, businesses -- and events. As in-person concerts, talks and big gatherings are cancelled and people spend more time at home, LAist is temporarily switching our events column to a "nonevents" column to help us through this time of social distancing.

Sátántangó
UCLA Film & Television Archive and Arbelos Films present a virtual screening of a new restoration of Hungarian filmmaker Bella Tarr's 1994 epic, Sátántangó. An adaptation of László Krasznahorkai's novel, the episodic black-and-white film clocks in at 7.5 hours as it follows the inhabitants of a small village in Hungary adapting to life after the fall of Communism. A portion of the screening fee supports the Archive's public programs.

Offstage / Sundays at Seven
The Los Angeles Master Chorale weekly online series launches on Friday. The shows features artistic director Grant Gershon and associate conductor Jenny Wong conducting 10-minute interviews with musicians, performing artists and Master Chorale singers. Its Sundays at Seven series (7 p.m. PST), which began last week, features a new recording of a concert from one of the chorale's previous seasons at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Flappers Comedy
Burbank comedy club Flappers hosts virtual comedy shows via Zoom. This week's women-centric lineup features Maria Bamford, Jackie Kashian and Laurie Kilmartin. Purchase tickets early; buying less than an hour to the show may delay delivery of the Zoom link.

First Fridays Connected
The NHM series returns online for April. Stream timely discussions and listen to DJ sets while making your beverage(s) of choice. Room Service Music Festival
This music fest, streaming live on YouTube, raises funds for Feeding America and Sweet Relief. Virtual Haiku Workshop
The Muck -- aka The Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton -- holds a haiku workshop for families on Zoom, led by its 2020 Artist in Residence Katharine Zaun. The poems are rooted in nature and the present moment, which make them perfect to compose and read during moments of uncertainty. Zaun leads an adult class the following week, May 1.

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) offers virtual programming that includes digital programs with artists from their exhibitions, art-making and educational activities, a series dedicated to LAMAG archives and artists' resources. Our L.A. Voices: A Pop-Up Arts+Culture Fest
Grand Park celebrates L.A.'s arts community with a free performing and visual arts exhibition featuring more than 20 L.A.-based artists on Saturday (9 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.). Pet Lit Storytelling Party
No, Fido and Fifi aren't telling quarantine stories. Getty Museum Challenge
If you haven't seen the response to the Getty's social media challenge yet, then search for the hashtags #betweenartandquarantine and #tussenkunstenquarataine for creative eye candy. Inspired by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and an Instagram account Between Art and Quarantine, the Getty asked people to recreate works from their online collection with items they have around the house. The results are impressive -- and hilarious.

Live from Home
Live Nation's initiative is collecting information and posting live streams from artists around the world. This weekend, watch Cold War Kids, Grouplove and Kamauu as they stream live from their homes with music and stories. In addition, the company is raising funds for people who run lighting, sound, catering and production and are out of work right now. Live Nation has created the Crew Nation fund and is donating $5 million as well as matching dollar for dollar the next $5 million.
