Your SoCal Weather Report For Tuesday, Jan 30: Warmer Than Normal Before A Series Of Rain Storms Comes Wednesday Night

Good morning, it's Tuesday and we are looking at another warm and sunny day before the rain comes again.
-
- Today’s weather: Warm, sunny
- Beaches: 70s
- Mountains/deserts: 60s/70-79
- Inland: upper 70s
- Warnings and advisories: None
It's going to be nice and sunny again at the beaches with highs in the low 70s. Inland, the average temperatures will stay in the upper 70s, up to 76 degrees in downtown Los Angeles, 79 degrees in Norwalk and up to 80 degrees in Woodland Hills.
Latest forecast on the storm
We've got two storms on the horizon, the first of which hits tomorrow night. Light if any rain will hit Ventura and L.A. county, more moderate rain will come to Santa Barbara. The front and the heaviest part of the first storm will come during Thursday morning rush hour for most of the Southland and is expected to bring steady rain for up to eight hours. We could see between 1 to 2 inches of rain during that period and we might see some moderate flooding.
The most interesting part is that warm water off the coast is going to give these storms some strength. And why is that happening? Well, it's a sign of El Niño.
Snow levels will start at 7,000 feet and come down to 5,500 feet Thursday night, bringing 1 to 2 feet of snow at resort levels. There will be some gusty winds reaching up to 40 mph, up to 60 mph in windier locations like the mountains. Friday is when we'll see a couple of inches of snow to the I-5 corridor and Tejon Pass.
We'll get a break from the rain come Friday night into Saturday. The second storm is expected to pick back up Sunday through Tuesday. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
This day in history
On this day in 1998 high surf up to 20 feet pounded the Orange county coast.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
