  • Don't let those calendars fool you, summer is still here! And with it, plenty of opportunities for great comedy. It's going to be an extended Labor Day weekend for most, so get out and enjoy yourselves with a superb week of shows.
  • It's exceptionally busy on LA's event front tonight, which is kind of surprising before Labor Day Weekend, but we're not complaining. Cast and creative team from ABC's comedy Happy Endings talk about the show at the Paley Center; Harry Shearer signs his Hurricane Katrina documentary at Amoeba; it's a bluegrass jam session at the Ford; and Station at the W Hollywood screens This Is It for Michael Jackson's birthday. Read on for the details and other events around town.
  • At Voyeur in West Hollywood last night, a red-carpet benefit event was held to raise funds for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles and Fur Free West Hollywood. Founded by actress Katie Cleary, it was called "Diamonds Not Fur." On the event's website, Cleary explains how the idea for the benefit came about.
  • In case you haven't noticed, it's effing hot out there. But rather than run from it (although we are sitting in air conditioned rooms, for the most part) we're going to embrace this sweltering weather with some celebratory music.
  • Get out to get tips on your new screenplay, check out the latest in vibrator technology or pay homage to Serge Gainsbourg in two different ways.
  • Before the fence and the admission fees, the jet-setting bands and even jet-setting fans, the Sunset Junction Festival was all about the hood. Wes Joe, a longtime resident of Silver Lake, dug up some archives from the inaugural event in August 1980 that The Eastsider has posted.
  • Tonight at 8 pm, PEN Center USA and Dirty Laundry Lit present a free night of readings in the program Dirty Laundry: Secrets, Indulgences & Lies at The Mandrake. Featured readers include: Heidi Durrow, Natashia Deón, Eric Layer, Katherine DeBlassie, Willie Davis and Kaitlyn Greenidge.
  • After more than a decade in business, American Apparel has decided to offer plus sizes. (And by "plus sizes," of course we mean "plus size".) Now the company is asking for the next bigger, better, booty-ful, curvy, full-figured, XLent ladies with full-size fannies who need a little extra wiggle room where it counts to be the next face of the new plus size line.
  • "Superman Returns" producer Jon Peters is being ordered to pay more than $3 million in a sexual harassment suit brought by a former employee. Shelly Morita, a personal assistant to the stars, claimed that the Hollywood executive created a hostile workplace, CBS LA reports.
  • Get out so you can square dance, check out a book from your favorite eastside library on the westside or just gaze at some stars.
