  • It's the 10th anniversary of 9/11 this weekend but count us out of the parade of re-airing Twin Towers footage. --- Sunday's focus is the "True Blood" season finale which we will augment with #truebie cocktails. --- "Community" S2 on DVD --- All this + the TV Junkie Must-Watch Plan
  • The past few weeks have brought earthquakes, massive power failure, continued economic desperation... the only thing missing is a global pandemic. Warner Bros. offers a shot of that with Contagion.
  • It's a weekend of remembrance and some of tonight's events reflect that sentiment, including the massive art exhibition LA Vs. WAR II and Eiko & Koma's performance at the Skirball Center. On a lighter note, The Latebirds play a free set at Amoeba and there's a poetry reading at Skylight Books. One of the poets is actress Amber Tamblyn (who we loved in House.) Read on for all the details.
  • These six actors in these six roles are very engaging company, and even though the evening is not short, it's never boring for a moment. Indeed, we were even a little disappointed when it ended, as we really were hoping for some more revelatory insight that would fill in all the narrative ellipses that Britt's play had repeatedly teased us with to sustain our interest.
  • Musical theater people are well known for their emotional investment in their beloved shows. So what will they think of Russell Crowe as a potential Inspector Javert in the film remake of Les Miserables? According to the Hollywood Reporter, the tempermental actor is in talks with Universal and Working Title to join Hugh Jackman and possibly Helena Bonham Carter in the movie, which is scheduled for a December 2012 release.
  • And of course we're not referring to Jesus. Mel Gibson's latest project is catching some people by surprise on two counts. First, that there is a latest project. Second, that a man whose alcohol-fueled anti-Semitic tirade was heard around the world is choosing to make a biopic about Judah Maccabee, the Jewish freedom fighter and hero of the Hannukah story.
  • Here's what we dug up for Thursday night in LA: Paley Center hosts a preview for NBC Fall shows; REDCAT kicks off its New Original Works Festival; Khaled Hosseini signs and discusses The Kite Runner Graphic Novel in Pasadena while author Peter Manso is at Book Soup; an international theater festival takes over the LATC and if it's the second Thursday of the month, it must be time for Downtown Art Walk.
  • After a highly publicized build-up following the suicide of Russell Armstrong, the premiere of the second season of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" went on as scheduled on Monday. As promised by Bravo execs, the episode didn't show Russell, but did rely heavily on Taylor Armstrong's struggle to save the couple's marriage.
  • Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles at Beverly Center kicks off at 5:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony featuring Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, “Vogue’s” Senior West Coast Editor Lisa Love, The Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo and host of the fashion show to follow, actress and designer Nicole Richie.
  • A local plein air artist is making bank with a painting whose subject freaked out bankers and police. In the process, the artist Alex Schaefer discovered that being suspected of terrorism was good for his livelihood. The painting that earned him a visit from detectives also earned him $25,200 on eBay.
