  • When Oprah Winfrey bid adieu to her studio and at-home audience of sobbing, enraptured fans back in the spring, she didn't say she was leaving television altogether. Could the American viewing public really let her? Of course not.
  • The Highland Park gallery Monte Vista is letting patrons check out a tree this season. You can call it a Christmas tree rental service, but they don't and the name they've chosen — the Portable Forest Tree Library — sounds way cooler.
  • Get out so you can see a Eugene O'Neill play, destroy all monsters (like they did in the 1970s) or learn about how L.A. pretty much invented the world.

Instead, in her new book, "Falling For Me," David details the bumpy ups and downs of adhering to the wisdom of a woman who once wrote that, "you may have to have a tiny touch of anorexia nervosa to maintain an ideal weight."
  • Prime yourself for next week's familial awkwardness with werewolves, vampires, comatose cheaters, dysfunctional weddings, British alcoholics & Iranian youth in revolt!
  • TGIF! We found a few events around town that piqued our interest, and might tempt you as well. Magnolia Park District holds a neighborhood block party; a program on the cult classic TV show Insight at UCLA; experimental chamber orchestra wild Up in Venice; and digital music and presentations with Interface LA, a discussion on a new guidebook on LA’s ethnic spas; and a Beaujolais Nouveau release party. Read on for all the details.
  • Patricia "Bonnie" Pointer, one of the original members of the singing group The Pointer Sisters, was busted early this morning, says the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Pointer, 60, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in the 1700 block of 125th Street, Los Angeles.
