SAG-AFTRA To Restart Contract Negotiations On Tuesday
Topline:
SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) will resume negotiations on Tue., Oct 24. The union has been on strike for over 100 days.
What they're asking for: SAG-AFTRA wants more benefits and a greater share of streaming revenue for actors, as well as greater control over use of actors' AI likenesses. In the most recent round of negotiations, the actors' union asked for a fee for every subscriber of a streaming service, according to AMPTP.
What studios are saying: Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who is participating in the negotiations along with top executives from Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and NBCUniversal, called SAG-AFTRA's most recent proposal "a bridge too far."
Why it matters: Over 99% of scripted TV filming came to a halt during the strikes, according to a new FilmLA report.
The backstory: Talks between SAG-AFTRA and Hollywood studios have stopped and started several times since July 14, when the strike began. The two parties broke off talks on Oct. 11 over a program SAG-AFTRA proposed that would have shared more of studios' subscriber revenue with actors.
