Reactions to SAG-AFTRA Agreement: Gratitude, Excitement and Humor

Two women on a picket line hold their arms up and appear to be cheering or celebrating. One holds a piece of yellow fabric in one hand and a sign in the other. The other is wearing an orange and yellow safety vest. Many people on the picket line hold signs that read "SAG-AFTRA on strike."

With the SAG-AFTRA strike slated to end just after midnight Thursday, social media users are reacting to news of the tentative agreement with relief, excitement, and humor.

The union said in a statement Wednesday that its TV/Theatrical Committee unanimously approved the tentative agreement. The deal must now be ratified by the union's members.

For Kae (@kaesarchive), the strike about to be over feels a lot like Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald winning the Super Bowl.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher posted a statement on social media saying, "We did it!!!! The Billion+ $ Deal! 3X the last contract! New ground was broke everywhere!"

And the Writers Guild of America West (@WGAWest) didn’t waste time congratulating their partners on the picket lines.

Rati Gupta, a strike captain for Paramount, told LAist the news had her feeling optimistic.

“I know our negotiating committee has worked so hard to get us exactly what we need, and I have faith that they did that,” she said.

Meanwhile, Elle (@saanvinspires) said on social media she screamed when she heard the news about the tentative deal.

Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
