Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Happy Fourth of July week, everyone! It’s a little weird that the holiday falls mid-week this year, but that should stop no one from going big on Thursday night. And with everything from the annual celebration at Grand Park to a home Dodgers game to Harry Connick Jr. at the Bowl to an Independence Day screening at Rooftop Cinema, there’s no shortage of places to get your fireworks fix.

If neighborhood celebrations are more your thing, head to the westside for Marina del Rey’s annual fireworks display on the water or the daytime parades in Santa Monica and the Palisades.

For more to explore, head over to LAist.com, where you can find the best bites of the week, like Argentinian food pop-up Gaucho Bites, RSVP for next week’s Tournament of Cheeseburgers at Smorgasburg (entry is free!), or schedule your kids’ summer by scouring the free activities provided by L.A. County Parks this month.

The weekly parties draw dancers new and old (strutters over 60 get in for $10) and from all walks of life to keep the tradition alive.

Highlighting Chicano art, lowrider culture, and tattoo artistry, the show at La Brea’s Beyond the Streets gallery also features original drawings and images of the Teen Angel studio. Oriol calls the exhibit an “homage to the city that raised me, the culture that shaped me, and the individuals who've walked this journey alongside me. It's a moment to reflect on the layers of Los Angeles, through the lens of my camera and the stories that have unfolded in its streets.”
