Maybe Long Beach City Hall should be called Kitty Hall
Potential cat owners are being encouraged to visit Long Beach City Hall. The government building was taken over by dozens of cats and kittens this week, earning it the nickname "Kitty Hall."
It's part of an event meant to encourage feline adoptions. Officials want to reduce the booming stray population at the city's shelter, especially during peak kitten season following spring births.
Ted Stevens with Long Beach Animal Care Services tells KPCC there are several reasons you may want add a feline to your life: "You can leave your cats indoors and they sleep a lot during the day while you're gone, and they're really good for people that have to work long hours and aren't home a lot, you can get a couple of them and they'll kind of hang out with each other and they do really well"
Fees at the event have been reduced to encourage adoptions.
Shelter officials are also encouraging those who already have a cat to have their pets spayed or neutered.
