The injured officer, who was not wearing a bullet-proof vest, was taken to a hospital and released Tuesday night. Yealu remains hospitalized in critical condition from wounds sustained when the officers returned fire.
Yealu had applied to the LAPD in 2009 but did not make it past all the necessary steps.
