SoFi Stadium will host its first ever high school football game on Friday. Warren High School and Downey High School will take their long-time rivalry to “LA Bowl Friday Night Lights.”
The winning team will be invited back to Sofi Stadium to be recognized at the “LA Bowl” on Dec. 16.
The rivalry
Both schools sit just a mile apart and belong to the Downey Unified School District. Their rivalry goes back decades. Downey High School students once covered Warren High School’s new football field with shaving cream and toilet paper, and Warren students responded by filling up Downey’s pool with rubber ducks, according to Downey High School’s newspaper.
When they faced-off last October, the Warren Bears beat the Downey Vikings 49-22. Downey went on to win the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship.
