Spider-Man heads to Marvel: Who has the Spidey sense to don the blue and red suit?
Sony Pictures announced Monday that they will share Spider-Man with rival Walt Disney Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new deal means fans may see Spider-Man appear in MCU films and some MCU characters pop up in Spider-Man films. It also means fans will likely see a new actor in the role of Peter Parker. Reports indicate that the last Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, will likely step aside and a new actor will don the red and blue suit and web shooters the next time around.
So, who will the next Spidey be?
Vulture's Abraham Riesman is The Frame's resident geek and he spoke with John Horn about who he hopes the next Spider-Man will be. Here's what Riesman had to say:
Part of me, you know, the hopeless liberal who likes diversity and inclusivity, would love to see a Spider-Man of color. You know, the original pitch for Peter Parker was, 'Hey, he's a kid growing up in Queens, and he's a middle class, lower middle class, ordinary guy.' With that demographic makeup in New York City today, he's probably going to be someone of color.
So, you know, I've got to hope, maybe we'll finally get Donald Glover's wish to come true and we'll get to see [him] play Spider-Man. That's something he pushed for a few years ago. It could be great to see Michael B. Jordan get stolen away from Fox, where he's currently in the Fantastic Four franchise. He'd be a great Spider-Man.
There's a lot of people out there. I'd love to see somebody who maybe isn't a huge brand name, and who has a real hunger to prove him or herself.
And it'd be nice to get an actual teenager. As much as I like Andrew Garfield, the guy's thirty and playing someone who's about fifteen or sixteen. It's a little ridiculous.
The Sony-Marvel announcement was exciting news for Southern California Public Radio's resident comic book geek and lead pop culture blogger, Mike Roe.
