From the folks behind Coachella comes Arroyo Seco Weekend at the Rose Bowl

Pasadena is going to get loud with a new music festival hosted by Coachella concert promoter, Goldenvoice.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers will headline the first night of Arroyo Seco Weekend — a first for the Los Angeles band, which has somehow never played a major music fest in its hometown.

Locking down the Rose Bowl in Pasadena wasn't easy. Despite the fact that every January the city hosts the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl, many people weren't happy about the idea of a music festival on the adjacent public golf course.

The big complaint? The venue is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Goldenvoice ultimately prevailed and announced the line-up today.

Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett and festival director Nick Adler tell The Frame's John Horn that they took many meetings with the Pasadena City Council to assure that they'll be friendly neighbors.
