When it comes to fighting the spread of the Zika virus, one thing stands out, say officials: combating the spread of mosquitos.
"The most important protective measures are the control of mosquito populations, and the prevention of mosquito bites in at risk individuals, especially pregnant women," said Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization on Monday in Geneva.
To be clear, health officials in Los Angeles have said that no transmission of the Zika virus has occured in LA County and it is still "unlikely."
But California already has a diverse population of mosquitos, said Lynn Kimsey, a professor of entomology at the University of California, Davis.
