The issue of training police officers for how and when to use force on the job is one that's being taken up not just in LA, but across the country.
Though departments in many cities are stepping up their training, it's a challenge to prepare officers for the circumstances that they encounter on the streets, said Eugene O'Donnell, professor of law and police studies at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
