Friday prayers in Sadr city, a sprawling slum in Baghdad's north takes place in Iraq on October 15, 2004. Sunni Suada (Su'ada) Soadoun, b. 1958, tells American and Kurdish soldiers the two Shiite men outside her house were trying to evict her from Kaadamiya, Baghdad, on March 27, 2007...The previous day American and Kurdish soldiers rushed to Suada Soadoun's house after she called the Kurdish soldiers to complain men were trying to evict her for the third time. ..The soldiers arrived and detained two of the men, a third escaped on foot. Suada is a widow, with four daughters and many grandchildren, and without a man to make her case for her, she fought and argued with the men who had tried to throw her out of her house. ..The men were masquerading as workers from the Ministry of finance, but their documents were false and they were carrying a pistol. It is impossible to say, but it is most likely they were members of the Mahdi army militia. ..The US and Kurdish soldiers left with their detainees and the street cheered and clapped their unlikely heros.
