New Bay Bridge span opens to first cars

The self-anchored suspension of the new eastern section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, left, runs behind the current eastern section which is closed to traffic in San Francisco, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Commuters faced their first morning on Thursday without the bridge, but there weren't major traffic snarls as day broke across the Bay Area. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu)
