Petroleum refining pollutes Southern California more than any other industry, that's probably no surprise. Number two on the list out of UCLA is film and TV production. KPCC's Molly Peterson says there's a glimmer of hope in the early success of an LA-based film lighting company.
Hive Lighting co-founders Rob Rutherford and Jon Miller don't sell their plasma lights as energy efficient. Miller says "that's too abstract." Instead, they market the lights as better, cheaper tools.

Each of Hive Lighting's plasma lights is the size of a Tic Tac. They can replace much larger, less energy efficient lights on a film shoot, but they cost more to purchase and rent.
