15,100 films.

That’s how many films were submitted to be in the annual Sundance Film Festival, which gets underway this weekend in the ski resort town of Park City, Utah. The festival’s organizers will narrow that number down to a mere 128 films they deem worthy of screening to the more than 1,000 accredited journalists who were credentialed to attend. The 10-day festival is the first opportunity for many studios to take a look at some of the new films coming out that they might like to purchase for distribution. Filmmakers will compete in U.S. and international categories for drama, documentaries, short films and more.

Today on AirTalk, Larry Mantle chats with KPCC’s “The Frame” host John Horn, who makes the trip to Park City annually to cover Sundance.
