Demos provides an historical examination of this phenomenon that began in the European Dark-ages, long before the trials in Salem, Massachusetts. He says this desire to rid the world of "evil" is not something of the past. He cites modern day examples and details the physical and psychological harm used again and again on those who are targeted.
