Author Donald Worster has written the first comprehensive biography of John Muir, the first environmentalist and the founder of the Sierra Club. Drawing on his own expertise in the emerging field of environmental history, Worster traces Muir from his childhood Scotland to his adult life in California exploring his friendships with the humble and the famous including Theodore Roosevelt and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
