The Italian-American Mafia
Larry Mantle speaks with Albert DeMeo, son of notorious Mafia hit man Roy DeMeo, who worked for the Gambino crime family. Roy ran the largest auto theft ring in the history of New York, and he murdered about 200 people as a Gambino hit man. Yet, he was also a loving husband and father who raised three kids. Albert DeMayo wrote For the Sins of My Father: A Mafia Killer, His Son, and the Legacy of a Mob Life (Broadway Books) to deal with his father’s past and to share the experience of growing up in the mob. Hofstra University historian Stan Pugliese joins the conversation to place the Italian-American mafia into context.
