Author Alissa Quart joins Larry Mantle to talk about the current trend to nurture and even create giftedness in children. Her new book Hothouse Kids explores the many classes, specialized camps, competitions, and other enrichment programs available to gifted children. Quart argues that for many gifted kids the intense pressure to excel early on creates self-esteem problems and performance anxiety in adulthood. She also takes a serious look at how the No Child Left Behind Act has reduced funding for programs for gifted children in America's public schools.
