World renowned neurobiologist Antonio Damasio joins Larry Mantle to talk about the newly created Institute for the Neurobiological Study of Emotion, Decision-making and Creativity, that he and his wife, neurologist Hanna Damasio are heading at USC. Dr. Damasio is the author of three books on the mind and the brain: Descartes’ Error; The Feeling of What Happens; and Looking for Spinoza. His research on the neurobiology of the mind has had a major influence on current understanding of the neural systems that underlie memory, language and the relationship between emotion, consciousness and rationality. Damasio is the recent recipient of the Prince of Asturias award presented to him in October. It is among the world’s most prestigious honors and he was the sole winner in the scientific category.
