It was 1986. A testing error caused a chemical explosion at reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power station in Ukraine. The ensuing fire burned for ten days, releasing nearly 200 tons of radioactive materials into the atmosphere. Winds carried that radiation into neighboring countries, contaminating hundreds of square miles of farmland. Today, people continue to suffer with the health effects, including cancers and birth defects. Fast forward--concerns about global warming are causing many to take another look at nuclear power because it doesn't produce greenhouse gases. Larry talks to experts about the Russian disaster and what it says about modern efforts to expand nuclear power.
