San Francisco Archbishop To Oversee Church Doctrine

On Friday Pope Benedict XVI, named Archbishop William Levada (leh-VAY-duh) of San Francisco to be his successor as the leader of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the body which rules on what on what the church allows and does not. Benedict held this job for 24 years until he became Pope last month. Archbishop Levada is the first American to serve in this position, one of the most important and contentious in the church, and becomes the highest-ranking American ever at the Vatican. Larry Mantle talks about this appointment with Father James Bretzske, professor and co-chair of the Department of Theology at the University of San Francisco.
