Orange County Toll Road Decision

The California Coastal Commission has rejected a proposal to extend an Orange County toll road through San Onofre State Beach Park. The Coastal Commission sided with environmentalists and surfers. They had complained that the extension would destroy a large area of environmentally sensitive habitat and wetlands, and spoil a popular surf spot. The Coastal Commission found that the toll road extension was inconsistent with state law. Toll road officials said they will file an appeal next week with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to keep the $875 million project alive. Larry talks with Sarah Christie, Legislative Director for the California Coastal Commission, Matt McClain, Director of Marketing and Communications for The Surfrider Foundation, and Lance MacLean, Chairman of the Foothill Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency and Mission Viejo City Councilman.
