Hoarding is defined as the “excessive collection and retention of things or animals until they interfere with day-to-day functions such as home, health, family, work and social life.” While not a clinical diagnosis, experts treat this disorder as a serious mental and health problem. Intervention and therapy is necessary to help hoarders get their lives back. Dr Sarah Gelberd, M.D., Geriatrician and senior physician for the LA County Department of Mental Health, and Dr. Todd Hutton, Associate Medical Director of the Della Martin Center, and Psychiatric Unit at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, join Host Larry Mantle to discuss the issue.
