Foundations, charities, and other non-profit organizations and institutions are feeling the pinch of the economic downturn. Endowments have seen their investments shrink dramatically, and non-profits are finding fundraising much more taxing and less lucrative than in years past. The timing couldn't be worse, because the need for charitable services is greatest when people are least likely to open their wallets to pay for them. How severely has the Wall Street crisis affected philanthropy? And what can charities to do to weather the storm of recession?
