From the moment of its founding in 1830, the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) has been controversial and little understood. Yet in the past several decades, the Mormon Church has transformed itself from a fringe sect into a thriving religion that embraces American values. Larry Mantle talks to the Helen Whitney, the producer and director of a new PBS documentary series on the Church entitled The Mormons. The series explores both the history of the Mormons and the inner-workings of the Church today. Joining the conversation is Greg Prince, an historian and author specializing in the history of the Latter Day Saint Movement.
