Julius Shulman

Larry Mantle talks with internationally renowned Los Angeles photographer Julius Shulman, whose iconic images helped to define modern architecture. Julius Shulman’s professional career began in late 1930’s when he developed a partnership with Richard Neutra. He went on to photograph the works of many other visionary mid-century modern architects like Rudolph Schindler, Ray Lautner and Pierre Koenig. The Getty Museum acquired the archive of over 260 thousand of Shulman’s photographs this summer, and an exhibition of some of his finest images opens at the Getty today. Larry also talks with the exhibition’s curator Wim de Wit. The exhibition, called Julius Shulman, Modernity and the Metropolis, opens today at the Getty Center and runs through January 22nd.
