We're scratching our heads over this Angeleno-item in today's New York Post "Page Six" gossip column as it doesn't involve Lindsey Lohan (she's in today's issue, too), George Clooney, Tom Ford or some celeb du jour: FORMER Ch. 5 "Good Day New York" executive producer (and co-founder of "A Current Affair") Joachim Blunck has gone trippy in his new life in Los Angeles. The former trash TV pioneer has been making art under the...

If you're planning to pick up visitors at LAX this holiday season, you've got some good news coming. The Daily Breeze and other media outlets report that LAX has established a a new 79-space "Cell Phone Waiting" parking lot on Airport Boulevard, where motorists can wait for free until they get calls from arriving passengers. The Daily Breeze reports: LAX officials unveiled the aptly named Cell Phone Waiting Lot during a news conference at...

Only 2 weeks left to indulge yourself before you have to actualize all those resolutions you made for the new year. We recommend breaking your carbo/sugar fast with a piece of Alligator (currently available at Gelson's Markets, pictured above), those delectable pecan encrusted pasteries. Growing up, we couldn't get enough of the flaky, buttery treat enlivened with marzipan and have fond memories of patronizing the bakeries around Robertson and Pico. While rummaging through the...

Are we the only ones who have noticed new graffiti on the 101 Freeway signs? Everytime we look up for our turnoff at Sunset or Benton Way, we see the words "360" scrawled in white chalk. Looks like someone's renewed their efforts to mark their turf. We've been reading the Los Angeles Newspaper Groups September 2004 series on gands in the Southland and find it very insightful. We enjoyed some of the reporters comments...

TheFoodSection.com's Kristin Franklin, blogging the site's "Moveable Feast" feature from LA, takes readers on a culinary tour of our city's burger joints. She hits all the usual suspects like Original Tommy Burgers,The Apple Pan, Fatburger and In-N-Out, but, surprisingly, fails to look in on Astro Burgers. Guess, it's too vegetarian for the list. LAist is also rather fond of the Double Del Cheeseburger at Del Taco. PS. We are really digging Franklin's post today...

Enjoyed Russ Parson's piece on the superiority of Japanese knives in last week's Food section of the Los Angeles Times. But got the real scoop from Gavin Shorto of Pondblog, who writes: There are drawbacks, though, which writer Russ Parsons doesn't mention. First, they are made of softer steel than Western knives commonly are, and so need a lot of maintenance. If you live in a humid climate, the job gets harder. Second, they...

We've been enjoying the display of lights all over the Windsor Square neighborhood. But special note goes to the folks on Arden who decorated their palm tree to give a special SoCal twist to the scene. Any holiday light displays that have caught your eye this season? Send a picture to labrainterrain@hotmail.com and we'll post it....

The California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement shut down 10 factories in Southern California earlier this month and issued $617,800 in fines for violations of state and federal workplace rules. The companies either didn't produce mandatory garment registration licenses or provide workers compensation insurance coverage. The fines included $343,500 for 14 cases of failing to provide wage statements and $25,000 for 20 instances of faulty time cards or none issued. Along with shop closures,...

Tonight is one of the best times to view the Geminid Meteor Shower. The source of the shower is asteroid 3200 Phaethon. There's a cloud of dust trailing the asteroid and Earth plows through it every year in mid-December. Bits of dust traveling 80,000 mph hit our atmosphere and turn into glowing meteors. You can try to catch sight of these special stars at a portable telescope open for free public viewing of the...
