More LA spots to try
  • The November issue of Pasadena Magazine has a cover star who, until recently, was more of a behind the scenes kind of guy, despite the often cocky swagger and 'tude. It's Chef Michael Voltaggio, who took over Chef de Cuisine duties this summer for The Dining Room, the swanky old-school restaurant at the Langham that's been turned upside down by Voltaggio's cheeky and innovative style of cuisine. LAist was lucky enough to be invited...
  • Talk about burger explosion. After opening the original Umami Burger last year, owner Adam Fleischman this summer announced two more locations in Los Feliz (now open) and in Santa Monica (not open yet). And now Los Angeles Magazine finds that a fourth location will go inside the former Snack Bar space at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood. That's what Valerie Confections on West 1st Street (Beverly/Virgil) is doing, starting with their famous version of Coffee Crunch Cake from Blum's Bakery today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They'll also be sampling Blum’s Lemon Crunch Cake. The full schedule of treats can be found here....
  • Get ready for some breakfast street food. Eater LA confirms that "Team Buttermilk Truck has officially confirmed the mobile vendor's November 11 launch date." And it won't just be pancakes and applewood sausages. At night, look out for chicken and waffles and the Buttermilk Brick....
  • Fabio Viviani (Photo via Bravo TV) Former Top Chef contender Fabio Viviani has left his Moorpark restaurant and moved quickly into a new spot, Firenze Osteria. The eatery has taken over the North Hollywood space formerly occupied by Barsac Brasserie, and underwent a quick turnaround to transform the restaurant. Now in a "soft-open" phase, Firenze Osteria is set to officially open this Saturday, with a public (with RSVP) cocktail reception, and the phone line...
