More LA spots to try
  • A policy change affecting much of Los Angeles County is being implemented, which means restaurants are now able to decide if they want to allow patrons to bring their dogs into outdoor eating areas.
  • Broken dreams? Smog? Sriracha? Dodger Dogs? What are the quintessential flavors of Los Angeles? We asked some of Los Angeles' top taste-makers, including food personalities, chefs, and some of our favorite makers and sellers of ice cream, sorbet, and gelato in town to have them dream up a truly L.A. concoction.

  • Well, it was fun while it lasted, but apparently the notorious "1% tipper" was all made up. The Orange County Register reports that a photo of a receipt showing a $1.33 tip on a $133.54 bill, and a note to the server to "get a real job," was manipulated.
  • Food critic Jonathan Gold recently made waves when it was announced that he was leaving his longtime home at the LA Weekly to write for the LA Times' new "Saturday" section. But it turns out that's not all Mr. Gold had up his sleeve with his new career trajectory -- Kevin Roderick of LA Observed reports that Gold is also debuting a new column in Smithsonian Magazine.
  • Sure, last week was Mardi Gras, and many people plated up a pile of pancakes for a Tuesday meal, but the party is tomorrow at the International House of Pancakes. They're celebrating National Pancake Day on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. What this means to you: FREE PANCAKES.
