More LA spots to try
  • A young woman who used to ring up cheesecakes at the Cheesecake Factory in Woodland Hills settled a suit, alleging that her supervisors sexually harassed her and then fired her for complaining.
  • Jews in California have had trouble finding kosher Coca-Cola in time for Passover tonight thanks to a new state rule. Typically, Coca-Cola makes a special batch of coke for Passover with yellow caps around this time of the year that is made with sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup (for those Jews abstaining from corn as well as grains during Passover).
  • The Night Market is an institution in many Asian countries, and now SoCal will get a taste of the after-sunset food and fun thanks to the 626 Night Market which is popping up for one night only this month in Pasadena.
  • Tickets are on sale for the 3rd annual LA Vegan Beer & Food Festival next month. The event sponsored by Quarrygirl, Tony's Darts Away and The Roxy combines vegan food and suds. It will be held May 12 from 1pm until 5 pm across the street from The Roxy. Tickets are $45.
  • The NCAA bracket-style contest for the title of Best Taco in Los Angeles ended with a tie (and thankfully, there are no hanging chads to worry about in online voting). The votes between Mariscos Jalisco, which had come close to taking the title in previous years, and Guisados split down evenly down the middle.
  • Brussels sprouts are a cool weather cultivar of cabbage, though shaped quite differently: a thick, main stalk covered with helical patterns of buds that resemble tiny cabbage heads. They grow in cooler climates, which make them ideal for the winter season in Southern California.
