Some motherfucker 'bout to get killed! | Photo courtesy of Warner Brothers In yet more disquieting economic news, the re-boot of the Friday the 13th franchise enjoyed a record-breaking weekend at the box-office. The stale re-make tallied a staggering $42.2M in its debut which should insure a steady stream of more awful retreads in the future. He Just Wants To Sleep With You placed a distant second with $19.6M ($55M) just ahead of the...

One of a handful of baseball cards you can download from the HBO site. Photo courtesy HBO. Let’s assume you’re a reasonably intelligent person who also has HBO. It would be easy to assume, then (since you are reasonably intelligent) that at 10 o’clock tonight you will be watching Flight of the Conchords on your HBO-enabled viewing box of choice. Again, seems reasonable enough. Why, then, in your reasonably-sized brain, would you ever have...

If there's anything this writer loves more than the release of one of the most anticipated video game sequels of the year, its the fact that one of the finest skratch DJ's around is scheduled to perform the launch party. That being said, Street Fighter IV is a pretty big deal. Celebrating its 20th year as a Capcom franchise, developers went above and beyond to offer fans a completely unique 2d fighting experience for...

Photo by Caroline on Crack First the Edison's Radio Room, aka speakeasy night, was held on Sundays. And then it was changed to Tuesdays. And then it disappeared. But tonight, it's back! That's right, you can once again enjoy crafted cocktails brought to you by Los Angeles' top mixologists while taking in a saucy cabaret show in this underground room of the Edison. And... for no cover! But to keep things interesting, tonight's featured...

Artist: Louis C.K. DVD: "Chewed Up" Release Date: 12/16/2008 Late last year Louis C.K. released a live performance DVD called "Chewed Up" and it's easily one of the best stand-up performances of the year. The Emmy award-winning C.K. has captured an incredible evening of stand-up on this DVD, in a style that is old school and minimalist. C.K. appears upon an unadorned stage, in a plain black t-shirt. The entire show is just a...

An all-star cast was enough to propel newcomer He Only Wants To Sleep with You to the top of the weekend box-office. The generic romantic comedy tallied an impressive $27.4M to easily beat last week's champ Taken ($20.3/$53.3M). The superb Coraline managed to snag $16.3M worth of kiddie dollars as parents weren't scared away by the film's dark themes. After that it was the unnecessary and dreadful The Pink Panther 2 ($12M) followed by the equally boorish Paul Blart: Pathetic Fatso ($11M/$97M).

Photographer Gary Leonard opened a gallery for his rare archival prints last month. The Apparel News has a mini-profile of the prolific photographer, who has documented most every Los Angeles ribbon-cutting, political ruckus or cool concert since the 1970s. The name of Leonard’s downtown L.A. space is Take My Picture, Gary Leonard, which was also the title of his weekly columns which ran for years in the Los Angeles Reader, New Times and CityBeat....
