The Alex Film Society screens Harold Lloyd's silent classic as its last outdoor summer screening. Taking place at the Doctors' House at Brand Park, the evening features live, original music by Retroformat Musical Director Cliff Retallick. The Society has worked with the History for Hire prop house to showcase the Bell & Howell Model 2709 35mm movie camera at our screening — the same camera that Lloyd used to film his movies through 1928. Bring your own picnic baskets, blankets and beach chairs. Free popcorn and parking. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

    AirTalk’s FilmWeek Screening: “The Big Lebowski”

    Grab your bowling ball and a White Russian and join us for a special FilmWeek screening of “The Big Lebowski.” Come watch Joel and Ethan Coen's 1998 L.A. crime comedy on the big screen with a few hundred other fans. We’ll be screening the film at the Gardena Cinema, a family-owned nonprofit independent theater that has been continually showing movies since 1946.

    Comedy, wordplay, music, and trivia abound in THE CROSSWORD SHOW, as host Zach Sherwin (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Epic Rap Battles of History) guides a pair of guest panelists through solving a crossword puzzle live onstage, with everything displayed on a big screen so the audience can follow the action. As the solvers decipher the clues, Zach takes the show down digressive rabbit holes of material inspired by the answer words, and it all ties together at the end for a grand finale that’s as satisfying as it is mind-blowing.
