Did you miss us? We're back with Traci Thomas (she/her) hosting One For The Books! For this new round, author Amanda Montell (she/her) will stop by to discuss her new book, "The Age of Magical Overthinking." Actor Vella Lovell (she/her) will join Traci and Amanda for hot takes, trivia, and lots of fun, so grab a drink and get seated for a literary night like no other.

ABOUT AMANDA MONTELL
Amanda Montell is a writer, linguist, and podcast host living in Los Angeles. She is the author of three nonfiction books, Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism, Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language, and The Age of Magical Overthinking: Notes on Modern Irrationality (forthcoming April 9, 2024 from OneSignal). She is also a creator and host of the hit podcast, Sounds Like A Cult. Amanda’s books have earned praise from The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Kirkus Reviews, and more. Cultish was named a best book of 2021 by NPR, was shortlisted for several prizes including the Goodreads Choice Awards and getAbstract International Book Award, and is currently in development for television. Sounds Like A Cult won “Best Emerging Podcast” at the 2023 iHeart Radio Podcast Awards and was named a best podcast of 2022 by Vulture, Esquire, and others.

Amanda’s essays and reporting have appeared in The New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, and elsewhere. She was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and holds a degree in linguistics from NYU.


ABOUT VELLA LOVELL
Vella Lovell currently appears on the Fox comedy Animal Control alongside Joel McHale as “Emily”, which just got renewed for its third season. Vella was a series regular in both seasons of NBC’s too short lived Mr. Mayor written by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, starring alongside Ted Danson, Holly Hunter and Bobby Moynihan. She also stars in Comedy Central’s original Christmas movie parody A Clüsterfünke Christmas written by Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch. She played “Heather” on the CW’s Emmy winning series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for four seasons, as well as the voice of “Mermista” on the Daytime Emmy and GLAAD Award winning Netflix series She Ra and the Princesses of Power. Other credits include Grace and Frankie, Dollface, Girls, Younger, As We See It, Kiff ,The Big Sick and dumping Ashton Kutcher on Netflix’s Your Place or Mine. On the stage, Vella has appeared in plays at The Geffen Playhouse, Yale Rep, and The Public Theater.


ABOUT TRACI THOMAS
Traci Thomas is an avid reader and book lover who created the acclaimed podcast, The Stacks, in order to talk about books and the ways they shape our cultural understanding of race, gender, politics, and what it means to be alive. Weekly guests range from academic thought leaders to bestselling authors, from actors to politicians and more; you'll find Ibram X.
