Rick Caruso had initially agreed to appear on this date before withdrawing two days prior to the scheduled time, citing a conflict. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The primary election for the next mayor of Los Angeles is just a few weeks away. To help get you ballot-ready, KPCC host Austin Cross (he/him) is sitting down with the candidates for a series of one-on-one interviews — and asking them your top questions.
Rick Caruso (he/him) is a businessman and real estate developer whose properties include The Grove and Americana at Brand. After announcing his candidacy, Caruso stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at USC, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He also has a law degree from Pepperdine University. He is a former president of the Los Angeles Police Commission and also served as a commissioner for the L.A. Department of Water & Power. He was born in LA and is 63 years old.
Note: The determination for candidate participation was initially based on results of a February poll conducted by UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and the Los Angeles Times. Invitations were extended to candidates who polled at least 3% at that time. Based on the latest polling data , which showed Gina Viola ahead of another previously invited candidate, we have now extended an invitation that she has accepted. All candidates with active campaigns will be invited to participate in our interactive Meet Your Mayor questionnaire.
This coverage was made possible through support by the Committee for Greater LA in partnership with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Weingart Foundation.
