Black women have the highest maternal mortality rate in the country – almost three times the rate of white women. To bring awareness to this stark fact – and help change it – this week is Black Maternal Health Week. Here in L.A., Black Women for Wellness and CinnaMoms Crenshaw are hosting an art and film event to highlight the voices of Black mothers and the systemic challenges they face before, during, and after childbirth. The afternoon also features a live art installation — co-hosted by LAist! — and an opportunity to explore community resources.
