Arts and Entertainment (he/him)

I cover arts and entertainment, from diversity issues to the latest theme park attractions. That means finding what's worth your precious free time and introducing you to your fellow creative Angelenos. I also host LAist's TV Pilot Club, where we discuss both what's great and what's problematic about our favorite shows.

I was born in California before growing up in the Pacific Northwest. But I'm happy to be back in my home state, working in our newsroom for more than a decade now.

I come from a mixed race background, Hawaiian and Puerto Rican on my mom's side. I work to always remember where I came from, seeking out stories that aren't from the same white-centered perspective we've read, seen, and heard our entire lives.

I love L.A. because it lets me work hard by day while also making creative work myself. After work, I write TV drama screenplays with my wife/writing partner and recently finished writing a book. And when I'm not writing, I'm probably grabbing comics and finding a good pizza place to eat from while I read them.
