Yes, But Will We Like It?
We realize that theatre reviews typically come out after the reviewer has seen the play, but we're on a 9 a.m. flight to the Big Apple tomorrow for a week's vacation (and to crash the Gothamist/Six Apart Happy Hour), so a review is the farthest thing from our mind. We haven't even packed! But we're going out tonight to see As You Like It downtown at the Ahmanson, and we're pretty stoked. We're also going to try to make up for the fact that we didn't go out last night for St. Patty's mainly because we don't care for the Day, but actually because we were taking a grueling final exam, so we're going to go out for some drinks tonight after the show. As You Like It is another one of Will Shakespeare's gender-bender cross-dressing magical forest romps. It's entirely possible that we've read it, but it's just as likely we haven't. No matter, this London-based production, directed by Sir Peter Hall, is reputed to be engaging and well-done. Like we said, we're stoked. We don't get to the big theatres often enough, and LA has some great stuff going on on stage. Will we like it? Who knows. But we think it's worth checking out.
As You Like It, by William Shakespeare runs through March 27th at the Ahmanson Theatre, 135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles. For tickets: (213) 628-2772
